Kenya Highland Reforestation

Komaza's Kenya Highland Reforestation project works with 12,000 smallholder farming families across Kilifi County to plant high-value tree species on degraded agricultural land. Each participating farmer receives seedlings, training, and ongoing agronomic support to establish 500-1,000 trees alongside existing crops. The agroforestry model provides multiple income streams: carbon credit payments, sustainable timber harvest (after 8-10 years), and improved crop yields from windbreak and soil improvement effects.

55% of participating farmers are women-led households. The distributed model eliminates the land acquisition challenge that plagues large-scale plantation projects.
