Zambézia Biodiversity Corridor

The Zambézia Biodiversity Corridor project protects 260,000 hectares of miombo woodland in northern Mozambique. The area faces severe deforestation pressure from charcoal production, shifting agriculture, and commercial logging. The project works with 45 community groups to establish community-managed forest reserves with formalized land tenure rights.

Alternative livelihood programmes include improved cookstove distribution (reducing fuelwood demand by 50%), honey production, and sustainable charcoal from managed woodlots. Biodiversity surveys have documented over 200 bird species and several globally threatened mammals including African wild dog and leopard.
