About this project
This REDD+ project protects 95,000 hectares of montane tropical forest in Kon Tum Province, an area of exceptional biodiversity including the recently discovered saola (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis). The project works with Gia Rai and Ba Na indigenous communities who have managed these forests for centuries. Activities include community forest patrols, fire management, sustainable NTFP harvesting, and a payment-for-ecosystem-services scheme that provides direct income to participating households.
Watershed protection from intact forests benefits downstream rice cultivation and municipal water supplies.
